We’ve all heard that businesses need online reviews the last couple of years, and recent research backs that up. Almost everyone reads them and 84 percent of people trust online reviews as much as their friends’ recommendations.
Here are some other interesting statistics:
- 95 percent of people 18 to 34 read reviews for local businesses and services. *cough, millennials, cough*
- 80 percent of that same age group have written an online review.
- Comparatively, 41 percent of people older than 55 have said they have written a review.
- 57 percent of people will only use a business if it has four or more stars.
You might be thinking, “Well, isn’t it awkward to ask customers for their review of my work?” The simple answer is no. People are asked to review just about everything, you’re not going to be an extra burden. In fact, people like sharing their experience. Fifty-nine percent of consumers have written reviews on local businesses and only 14 percent of people said they would never give their opinion that way. Devise a plan to ask for reviews. Let your customers show you some love. You could ask them before they ever leave the building. If that’s too forward, ask via email in a nice thank-you note a few days later. You could even revise your email signature from time to time to ask for reviews.
